Corona virus update #2: Peru suspends flights from Europe & Asia

Today the Ministry of Health (MINSA) confirmed that there are 28 cases diagnosed with COVID – 19 in Peru, in the departments of Lima, Arequipa, Huánuco and Ica. Due to this situation, the Government announced new measures to contain the spread of the virus.

In the tourism sector, the measures taken are: 

• Entry restrictions: As of Monday 16 March, flights from Europe will be suspended for a period of 30 days, as well as from Peru to that continent, with the aim of strengthening the measures to prevent coronavirus contagion (Covid-19). The rule also requires that flights between Peru and Asia will be suspended, although there are no direct flights to that continent, this includes flights that have origin in that region. 

• Inca Trail Tickets and Machu Pichu: The Ministry of Culture has reported in a statement this afternoon that the entrances of the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu will have the possibility of being postponed without penalty during the year 2020. In addition, it is also being given the possibility to make name changes on the tickets, prior to a formal request by the authorized agency.

 Additionally, schools, colleges and universities are closing to prevent the virus to continue spreading.
