Huaca Rosada

WHERE IS IT LOCATED?
Located in the district of Ventanilla, Constitutional Province of Callao north of the Chillónriver, the Huaca Rosada with an approximate age of 4,500 years. It has an approximate area of 30,000 m2, and was declared a Cultural Heritage of the Nation in January 2001. The site has a truncated pyramid and a sunken circular square, belonging to the late archaic period, also called pre-ceramic.
What is it?
It wasthe center of fire worship, and was characterized by using the pink color in its structure, which is why it is known as Huaca Rosada. Its striking resemblance to America’s oldest civilization, the Caral Archaeological Center, is reflected in its circular square. It is the only site of its kind in the city of Lima, only comparable to pre-cultures well-known ceramics on the north-central coast. Unfortunately, this first area of the huaca has been watered and many of the richness it presented inside have been lost.
The second distinguishable area of Huaca Pampa de los Perros is the seemingly residential area of the complex, which, unfortunately, was deteriorated a few decades ago by the action of a private company that made holes in the area. The third area of the huaca is the Circular Square where a staircase possibly existed.

The Ministry of Culture signed in May an agreement that will have a validity of 5 years, which has the main objective of putting in social use archaeological sites in the area of Huaca Rosada forcreate new poles of tourism development that improve the economy of the monuments environment, as well as help strengthen the identity of the neighbors, through educational activities that involve them with history.
