National tourist destinations with international seal «SAFE TRAVELS»
As part of the actions aimed at the recovery of the national tourism industry, hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic that has generated an unprecedented global economic impact, the competent public and private entities, such as Mincetur, Cenfotur, Promperú, Canatur Regional Governments, among others, have been promoting the recognition of safe tourist destinations through the Safe Travels international seal and jointly articulating different actions for the development and promotion of safe tourist destinations.
The «Safe Travels» seal is a recognition granted by the World Travel and Tourism Council as a result of the implementation of a set of protocols designed under the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), whose objective is to ensure that destinations tourism services are recognized as safe and of quality, nationally and internationally, as well as to recognize tourism service providers who have been implementing health standards and protocols that guarantee the safety of travelers as each country or region joins the “new normal”.
For this purpose, the Health Guidelines for COVID-19 for Tourist Destinations have been incorporated, through Ministerial Resolution No. 195-2020-MINCETUR where 04 phases were established to carry out the process of obtaining the international seal, which are:
PHASE 1: Call and Application PHASE 2: Implementation PHASE 3: Assessment and recognition PHASE 4: Monitoring
Tourist destinations with the «Safe Travel» seal are accompanied by Mincetur and must implement the following measures: 1. Health guidelines for tourist destinations, within the framework of Safe Travel 2. Health protocols for tourism services within the framework of CALTUR – National Plan for Tourism Quality 3. Certification of quality and tourism sustainability, in charge of CALTUR 4. Monitoring of the fulfillment of the commitments, by the tourist destinations that obtained the Safe Travel seal
To date, there are 32 tourist destinations recognized with the international Safe Travels seal, made up of 79 circuits and / or tourist corridors that group 307 tourist attractions, and it is expected to have 40 recognized tourist destinations by the end of this year.
It is important to highlight that in order to guarantee compliance with the sanitary measures and sectoral protocols against COVID-19, MINCETUR is in charge of the follow-up and monitoring, in order to verify compliance with the specific agreements signed with regional governments regarding the use of the international Safe Travels seal in tourist destinations. A table is attached containing the list of destinations with the Safe Travels seal.
