NEW REGULATIONS FOR THE INCA TRAIL

The famous Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 2019, is one of the most popular excursions in Cusco – Peru – South America. and considered among the best treks in the world included among the 1st treks in the world, the Inca trail is a journey to the past.

Many hikers have complained about the Inca Trail permits because they were unable to get on this hike. Because the permits were exhausted for the months of demand, April, May, June and July.

Now with Covid, it’s going to get harder to get permits, as there’s a new rule, a maximum limit of 500 people entering the trail per day that includes tour guides, professional cooks, and indigenous porters. Which means that only 200 permits are assigned for tourists and about 300 for cooks, porters and guides each day.

• WHY BOOK THE INCA TRAIL BEFORE?
  The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is a walk that is worth doing, but it needs a lot of prior planning, to walk this trail, you must reserve it by a licensed tour operator, to obtain permits for the Inca Trail, the permits are limited and they sell out quickly.
• WHAT DO I NEED TO DO THE INCA TRAIL?
  You need permission from the Ministry of Culture (Government) to do the Inca trail
• ONCE I BOOK, CAN I CHANGE THE START DATE?
  No. The government does not allow us to change the dates of the permits. If you need to change your date, you will need to purchase a new permit and your new date is likely to run out.
• HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN GO BY GROUP:
  A group of maximum 8 and 1 guide, larger groups must be divided into groups of 8 people and each group 1 guide per person.
• ADEQUATE TIME TO START THE INCA TRAIL RESERVATION:
  Ideally, you should try to book the Inca Trail six months in advance, especially if you want to go during the high season 8 months in advance (June, July and August). During these months, the Inca trail permits can run out quickly so the operator constantly reports and these spaces cannot be seen on a free page, only on the pages of authorized agencies
