Peruvian Chefs Score Big in the WORLD’S 50 BEST RESTAURANTS Award Ceremony

One of the most anticipated culinary award ceremonies took place yesterday, July 19^th, in Bilbao, Spain. The World´s 50 Best Restaurant Award recognizes the most prominent and fine restaurants in the world, and to be in this list is an important achievement for restaurateurs and chefs.

You may ask how is this relevant to us Peruvians? And the reason why is because Peru has been awarded for sixth consecutive years  as the leading culinary destination in the world. So it’s imperative that our Peruvian chefs are putting all their efforts to be nominated and score a spot in this list.

We are so proud to learn that indeed, all the creativity, innovation and research done to make our Peruvian gastronomy outstand in the world, has paid its dues. Three Peruvian restaurants has made it to the list, and actually two of them ranked a spot in the TOP 10.

Central from Chef Virigilio Martinez and co-chef Pia Leon landed in 6^th place, Maido from Chef Mitsuharu ‘Micha’ Tsumura in 7^th and Astrid & Gaston in 39^th from renown chef Gaston Acurio. This last chef, who is basically our Peruvian Gastronomy Ambassador, the man who put our cuisine in the spotlight and right in front of the eyes of the world, also received The Diners Club Lifetime Achievement Award 2018.

Yesterday, was definitely a night to remember for these amazing chefs who are making us Peruvian very proud. Thank you for sharing with the world the uniqueness, diversity and richness of our cuisine. We hope next year we get to see more than three Peruvian restaurants in this list!
