Recap of Facebook Live and Update of the Tourism and Hotel Sector in Peru
As of today, May 1, there were 36,976 people infected by Covid-19 and 1051 deaths. Currently tourism in our country, as in all parts of the world, is completely paralyzed.
Yesterday, Vanessa Ponce, our director of Business Development and Marketing, made a Live on our Facebook page, giving a series of recommendations for companies in our sector, as well as for travelers. Here is a compilation of the presentation:
Recommendations for companies in the tourism sector:
• Acceptance and adaptation: the pandemic has generated many changes, and has created a “new reality”. We need to adapt and accept that nothing will be as before. This brings endless opportunities to reinvent ourselves and become creative. • Information is key: it is important that we take advantage of the situation, now that our industry in stand-by and most of us are working from home, we should be soaking up with information about our industry and the world, use sources such as WHO, Minsa, our ministries, etc. Look at models of success that other destinations and companies in the sector are demonstrating, and leverage them to create models of adaptation and personalization in our businesses. Being informed will give us a great advantage to get ahead, it is time to train ourselves, to learn and recalibrate our businesses to re-emerge. • Implementation of new protocols: The reconfiguration of the tourism and hotel sector will be largely based on providing high standards of security and cleanliness so that when governments make the decision to reactivate the industry, we are all aligned under international and local regulations. Not only to protect our guests, diners or visitors, but also our essential team. Our staff should be protected at all times, since they are the ones that allow our companies to run and that we can provide excellent services. • Think local: experts and destinations around the world have turned their tourism promotion efforts to focus on domestic tourism. We must find and give value to our regions, and start by opening our destination’s attractions to our people, to the citizens of our countries, so that they have the main entrance to be able to enjoy the wonders that we offer to the world. • New trends: experts comment that among the new trends are experiences in places with open spaces, nature products will be preferred, as well as experiences that have an impact on communities and are consciously sustainable. • Diversify products: It is time to reinvent ourselves, to redesign the way we operate and the services we offer. We need to give a new tourist focus to our destination, stop focusing on a single product, especially when we have the opportunity to have such a diverse country.
Recommendations for travelers
• It is important to know that at the moment the borders in Peru are still closed and there are no commercial flights until June 1. • All tourist attractions are also closed at this time, and there is talk of being able to start opening them from July onwards, for this we will also be working on protocols and will have as a final resolution based on how our evolution in the face of the pandemic advances. • It is recommended to opt for activities and experiences that do not have overcrowding, products of rural tourism and nature, are ideal to enjoy open and natural space. • Do not schedule trips until you are sure that you are going to be able to enjoy the destination as you deserve, as well as, being aware that the destination is ready to receive you, where your visit will positively impact the place, economy and its people, without taking away the resources that they require. • Make sure that the companies you hire are local companies, companies that require you to continue working in tourism, consume from local companies. In addition, that these companies have a new protocol to follow, they will be demanding protocols from the entrance to our country, new operation structures for hotels, restaurants, transport, tour operators, among others, that they are respecting and considering the sustainability of the country and health prevention and care. • Our recommendation is that you postpone your trips, preferably for the end of the year or the beginning of 2021 and that these trips are trips with meaning and purpose. It is time to think collectively and not as individual satisfaction. That our footprint of travelers leaves an optimal impact on the destinations we visit and we are aware that our visit is a privilege and also our responsibility.
